I do not begin with a sketch. I am inspired by a thought, someone speaking, a fleeting flash of creativity, an emotion, a walk, something that can pass in moment. If I can retain that feeling or recapture it I begin the long and sometimes painful path of creating a piece.
At times I simply spread out on my bench loose stones, metal, scraps, tools and I contemplate, hoping the materials themselves will reveal what I'm looking for and if I'm lucky I get it and I begin.
The satisfaction at the end is indescribable
